Code of Ethics


All Anahata School of Yoga Teachers should read and familiarise themselves with the following Ethical Guidelines.

Each Registered Teacher shall act at all times to:

• Strive to live with integrity in accordance with the principles of yoga.

• Adhere to the principles of yamas and niyamas of the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali to the best of his/her ability. (including; non violence, truthfulness and purity)

• Serve the interests of society.

• Uphold and enhance the good standing and reputation of our profession.



As a registered Anahata School of Yoga Teacher, you are personally accountable for your practice and, in the exercise of your professional accountability must:


1. Act always in such a manner as to promote and safeguard the interests and well being of students.

2. Ensure no action or omission on your part, or within your sphere of responsibility, is detrimental to the interests, conditions, or safety of students.

3. Stay current with, and continue to develop your education, training, practice of yoga and personal growth.

4. Acknowledge any limitations in your knowledge and competence. Only offer those services that you are competent to provide in a safe and skilled manner.

5. Work in an open co-operative manner with students and colleagues, fostering student’s independence with respect.

6. Work in a respectful collaborative manner with colleagues, preventing isolation by seeking out collegial relationships in the wider yoga community.

7. Recognise and respect the uniqueness and dignity of each student, responding to their needs regardless of their ethnic origin, religious beliefs, personal attributes, disabilities, sexual orientation or other factor.

8. Dress in a modest manner while teaching yoga

9. Avoid abuse of, and remain sensitive to the privileged nature of the student/teacher relationship. Avoid any action that may conflict with the highest interest of students. Avoid taking unfair advantage of students financially, sexually, romantically or otherwise, even if invited by the student.

10. Protect all confidential information concerning students, and make disclosures only with consent, where required by the order of a court or where you can justify disclosure in the wider public interest.

11. In advertising, make no exaggerated claims as to the benefits of yoga or your classes. Represent training, qualifications and abilities accurately and clearly.

12. Hold current public liability insurance.
