Yoga for Pregnancy Teacher Training Module

Pregnancy is a normal, natural part of a women's life, and giving birth is what a women's body is created to do. Yoga in pregnancy is a beautiful way for a women to prepare physically, mentally and emotionally for birth and the transition to motherhood.
We are fortunate in this day and age to have the support of quality medical services. For most women pregnancy and birth can and should be a natural experience where a women feels confident and empowered to give birth instinctively. Attending specialist pregnancy yoga classes helps a woman to rediscover her inner power, intuition, and trust in her own body wisdom, bringing confidence in her body's ability to give birth.
This teacher training module is designed to prepare you to confidently teach safe yoga practices of asana, pranayama and meditation appropriate to the three trimesters of pregnancy. The course will run over 3 weekends offering a total of 42 contact teaching hours.
Pre-requisite Training
Participants must hold a minimum 200hrs Yoga Teaching Diploma.
Course Content
• Anatomy & Physiology of conception, pregnancy and birth
• Physical & emotional changes of pregnancy
• The 3 trimesters of pregnancy, minor disorders & common conditions – how yoga can help
• General guidelines for safe practice
• Asanas, mudras and sound practices
• Visualisation & Relaxation
• Pranayama & Meditation
• Maintaining a healthy pelvic floor
• Optimal Foetal Position
• Preparation for labour & birth; positions for 3 stages of labour and breath preparation
• Class formats – Integrating trimesters
• Spiritual dimensions of pregnancy & birth
• Yoga physiology related to pregnancy
• Beneficial post-natal practices
• Marketing your classes/Developing holistic therapy networks in field of pregnancy.
Participants are encouraged to observe pregnancy yoga classes (tutor's or other). Background reading of relevant course texts is required.
Course work will involve:-
• completion of 3 class plans
• creation of class handouts and questionnaires
• short essay
• 1.5hr class teaching assessment with a minimum of 4 pregnant students in 2nd & 3rd trimesters.
